Sea Devils Sweep Road Trip

Wilmington, NC - The Sea Devils began their road trip defeating Rockingham Community College in straight sets 25-7, 25-7, 25-14. Cape Fear recorded 29 aces, 12 from Libero Ashley Johnson. Freshman outside hitter Jordan Gilmore lead the team in kills, contributing 10 to the team's 34. "It is tough to get off the bus and play," said Gilmore. "We dug in tonight and pushed through our first match together."

Next up, Cape Fear took on Wake Tech who came into the contest 5-2 in conference play. With a solid home crowd in their gym, Wake Tech seemed to have an emotional advantage before the game even started. After three missed serves and four hitting errors from Cape Fear, the Sea Devils found themselves four points behind near the end of the first set. "We tend to make things more difficult on ourselves in tough situations," said freshman Casey Salchert. "We knew we could come back, but it wasn't going to be easy." Cape Fear continued to battle and stole the important first set 25-23.

The Sea Devils came out strong in game two, as they cruised through the set 25-9. Cape Fear continued to play well, winning the match in the third game 25-13. "This match showed us what we can do when we are all on the same page," said freshman Maddie Garner.

Freshman outside, Jenna Baranowski finished the match with 15 kills and 17 digs. Salchert contributed 39 assists and 10 digs.

The wins move Cape Fear to 9-3 on the season and 8-2 in conference play. The Sea Devils travel to Louisburg and Vance-Granville this Saturday, October 1st for two conference matches.
