Volleyball Adds Two More Wins

Wilmington, NC - The Sea Devils travelled to Smithfield, NC to compete in a tri-match with Wilkes Community College and Johntston CC.

Up first, CFCC took on Wilkes. With starting sophomore Juliann Shirley out due to an injury, the Lady Sea Devils put a new line-up on the court. Freshman Maddie Garner debuted as middle blocker finishing the match hitting .800 for her team. Cape Fear swept Wilkes 25-5, 25-5, 25-4. The team totaled 37 service aces, 15 of them from Libero Ashley Johnson.
Cape Fear continued to play well, defeating Johnston Community College 25-7, 25-13, 25-6 in the next match. Freshman Casey Salchert contributed 33 assists, allowing Jessica Moore to finish with 11 kills and Jordan Gilmore with 9. Moore and Salchert each finished the match with 6 service aces.

"I think the team was worried about Juliann's knee injury, "said Coach Pompeani "but once they started playing everyone seemed to calm down. Maddie is one of our strongest blockers and she has middle experience from high school. We knew she would adapt just fine." Garner contributed 4 blocks in the Johnston CC match and finished with 3 kills.
The Sea Devils travel to Greenville this Sunday to take on Pitt Community College. Game time is slated for 1:00 p.m.
