Lady Sea Devils Finish Season

Wilmington, NC - The Sea Devils Volleyball team finished their 2011 season with a loss to defending National Champions, Pasco-Hernando this past Saturday, November 5th.

CFCC traveled to Surry Community College for the Region 10 playoffs with a 14-3 conference record; their only losses to Pitt CC, Catawba Valley CC, and to the 2011 conference champions, Surry CC Knights.

"With Pasco lined up for our first match, we new it was going to be a tough morning," said Coach Pompeani. "We knew what we were up against and how hard we would have to fight."

After a strong start, the Sea Devils dropped the match to Pasco in three. CFCC recorded five missed serves and 23 hitting errors at the end of the match.

"We came here with goal and one plan and we didn't execute it. We all wanted this for each other, but wanting wasn't enough," said freshman middle blocker Meg Knoerzer. Knoerzer finished the match with hitting a solid .333 and contributing two blocks.

The Sea Devils finished the 2011 season with an overall record of 17-8. Freshman Jenna Baranowski and sophomore Juliann Shirley were named First Team All-Region. Baranowski finished the season with 221 kills, 61 aces and 258 digs. Shirley contributed 158 kills, 60 blocks, and 38 aces.

Julianne Shirley broke her individual record with blocks and will be listed third in the CFCC record book under Danielle Wood (2004).

Freshman setter Casey Salchert will be added to list of record holders for assists per season with 788 assists for the 2011 season. She will be listed as second under Ashley Kalista (2004). With seven freshmen on this year's roster, the future for Sea Devil Volleyball is bright.
