Sea Devils Drop Match To Pitt

Wilmington, NC - The CFCC volleyball team travelled to Greenville, NC to take on Conference leader, Pitt Community College on September 25th. The Sea Devils found themselves down in the first set 1-10. "We couldn't put a ball away," said Coach Pompeani. "We were getting great swings and they were returning them handedly. With the score at what is was, we tried to dig in and extend the match." However it was Pitt took the first set 13-25.

Game two had a similar start for the Sea Devils. "They really hurt us with their serves. We just couldn't seem to pull it together," said defensive specialist Candice Downey. Downey finished the night passing 2.67, the highest percentage of the team's average 1.72. Cape Fear eventually dropped the second set 16-25.

A new line up took their positions on the court for game three. "We needed someone to step up and no one had yet," said Pompeani. "We have outstanding athletes on this team, but we needed a court leader to emerge and take charge out there." With a few fresh legs and clean mentality, the Sea Devils were able to win game three 25-17.

Game four promised to be a strong battle for the Sea Devils, but Pitt took the victory 17-25 ending the match 3-1. "Pitt played as a team and that's something we don't feel like we have done yet," said outside hitter, Jessica Moore. "Once we decide to click-in and play all together, we will be unstoppable." Moore finished the night with 10 kills and 17 digs.

The Sea Devils head to Raleigh Wednesday the 28th to play Rockingham Community College at 5:00pm and Wake Tech at 7:00pm.
