In Short: Cape Fear Volleyball fought hard to pull out a win in the 5th set against the Catawba Red Hawks in the first round of Region 10 Tournament play.

Highlights:

Sea Devils volleyball traveled to Wake Tech in Raleigh, NC to compete in the first round of Region 10 Tournament play against the Catawba Red Hawks. Cape Fear has faced Catawba many times in the past, as they are a Region 10 opponent that competes in the "West" part of the conference.

Cape Fear finished off the first two sets with ease and were able to separate themselves with around 10 points to spare per set. However, the Sea Devils let their foot off the gas in the third and fourth sets - allowing Catawba to fight back and catch up with some close set finishes.

Cape Fear was able to lock back in and finish the final set in a close 15-12 final battle and move on to the next round of the Region 10 Tournament.

Kara Walker finished the match with a season high of 17 kills accompanied by 10 digs. Freshmen Leah Davis and London Ipsen fought for a combined 27 digs between the two of them to lock down the match defensively.

Sophomore Hannah McDowell proved to be a key asset once again to the Sea Devils' attack with 31 assists, followed by 10 digs to round out tallies for the evening.

"We were focused and excellent in sets 1 and 2, but struggled to finish things off and keep our composure in 3 and 4," remarks Head Coach Colby Rosser. "But we pulled out the win when it mattered and we are looking forward to competing again tomorrow."

Up Next: Cape Fear Volleyball will take on the Surry Knights at noon today for the Region 10 Tournament Semifinals. If the Sea Devils finish that match with a win, they will advance to the Championship match immediately following at 2PM.
