Sea Devils Clip Baltimore City

Baltimore, MD - Cape Fear men's basketball opened the Baltimore City Classic tournament with a win over Baltimore City Community College, 92-88.

Jacque Brown lead the Sea Devils with 19 points, while Trae Bryant finished with 17 points and eight assists. Alonzo Tyson added 13 points and six rebounds.

Cape Fear controlled the game in the first half, and headed into halftime leading by 10. While they lead for much of the second half as well, Baltimore City made a run late in the game, and tied it with 3:53 remaining. However, Brown and Bryant then scored 9 straight for the Sea Devils, giving them an 82-73 with 2:26 left.

The game looked to be in Cape Fear's hands at that point, but Baltimore City's Mekhi Bryant knocked down a 3-pointer with just under a minute remaining, which cut the lead to just three. Baltimore City then pulled within one point, but after two made free throws by Bryant, followed by a missed 3-pointer by BCCC, Tyson would make 1-2 free throws to give Cape Fear a four point lead with a second remaining, putting the game out of reach.

Head coach Ryan Mantlo spoke before about wanting to see improved resolve and toughness from his players. Against Baltimore City, he saw that from them.

"I am very proud of our resilience today. We played a very good team and certainly didn't get any help from the officials."

Mantlo also stated that while he believes his team is improving daily, they will have to play well if they are to win on Sunday.

"We continue to get better each day, and are going to have to be really good to walk away with another win tomorrow against a very big and talented Harcum team."

Cape Fear improves to 8-2 on the season with the win. They will play Harcum College next on Sunday, December 11th. Gametime is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
