Defensive Turnaround Leads to Victory in Conference Opener

Denmark, SC - Cape Fear men's basketball won its opening conference game of the season, defeating Denmark Technical College on the road 90-75. Jacque Brown led the Sea Devils with 20 points and seven assists.

Head coach Ryan Mantlo was pleased with the way his team played defensively on the road.

"It's always nice to get a conference win on the road. I thought we were much better defensively today which led to a win when our offensive percentages were down."

The team's defensive improvement comes one game after allowing 91 against Port City Prep at home Wednesday. While Cape Fear set a school record in points on Wednesday, coach Mantlo felt his team needed to improve on the defensive end if they wanted to compete in the national tournament, and Saturday's win indicated a step in the right direction.

Along with Brown's team high 20 points, Trae Bryant scored 15 points, while Tai-He Jeter finished with 14.

The win improves Cape Fear to 14-2 on the season, and 1-0 in conference play. They will return home on Monday to play Johnson Community College at 2 p.m. as part of "MLK Celebration" day. Admission is free to all.
