Cape Fear Wins Final Game of the Weekend

Bolivia, NC - Cape Fear men's basketball won its final game of the Brunswick CC Christmas Classic, beating Bryant & Stratton College 99-91. Trae Bryant led the Sea Devils with 35 points, five rebounds, and four assists, while Alonzo Tyson finished with a double-double of 10 points and 10 rebounds.

"Great way to finish off the first semester," said head coach Ryan Mantlo. "Now they can get some time with their families and heal up. I'm excited to see what 2017 brings us."

Unlike the previous two games in the tournament, Saturday night's matchup against Bryant & Stratton was a tightly contested game, with six ties and two lead changes throughout it. The Bobcats led for roughly the first 10 minutes of the first half, until Tai-He Jeter knocked down a 3-pointer to put the Sea Devils up 24-22.

Cape Fear held the lead until about 14 minutes remaining in the second half, when Bryant & Stratton tied it momentarily at 55-55. The Sea Devils then re-took the lead, and wouldn't concede it for the rest of the game.

Both teams forced a lot of turnovers and took advantage of them, with Cape Fear scoring 23 points off of 19 turnovers, while the Bobcats scored 26 points from 20 turnovers by the Sea Devils.

Bryant & Stratton were dominant down low, outscoring Cape Fear 62-44 in points in the paint. However, Cape Fear were the better team from foul line, making 23-29 while Bryant & Stratton made just 15-25.

The win improves Cape Fear to 12-2 on the season. They were return to the court Saturday, January 6th to take on Isaiah Christopher Academy at home. Tip-off is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
