Sea Devil MBB Inks JUCO Transfer Devonte Barker

WILMINGTON, NC--- Head Coach Ryan Mantlo and the Sea Devil Men's Basketball program has announced that Barton County CC junior guard Devonte Barker has transfered into the program; Barker will suit up for the Sea Devil Men's Basketball program starting in the 2017-2018 season.

"We're obvisouly excited to welcome him to the family. We know he is explosive as a player, and will bring a lot of energy and talent to the Schwartz [Center]. He is a great young man off the floor so we're excited to have him in our program," Mantlo said his comments when asked what Devonte Barker will bring to the program.

Barker appeared in 8 games this season at Barton County Community College, Barker averaged 7.4 points per game and 1.8 rebounds per game, while shooting 50.0% from the field, 40.0% on his three pointers, and 64.3% from the line.

"I'm looking forward to having a great season when I suit up as a Sea Devil and will be willing to do whatever coach needs so we have a positive outcome. Just to get better overall, and bring positivity as well as sophomore leadership for the freshmen. So mainly just to become a leader on the court and produce," Barker said in his opening statements on why he choose to play for Coach Mantlo and the Sea Devil Men's Basketball program.

Barker's older brother and his personal trainer, Rod Williams, spoke highly of Devonte, "I coached him in the summer of his 10th grade year while I was in college. He decided his senior year that he wanted to pursue basketball. He is a very humble kid that works hard, who is very athletic, can shoot, and is very respectful."

Barker attended both Kestrel Heights and Faith Chrisitan Academy during his high school athletic days; while at Kestrel Heights, he averaged 21.4ppg and 4.5rpg on 53% from the floor and 40.0% on threes.

Barker would finish his career at Faith Christian Academy, where he averaged 22.5ppg and 5.5rpg on 75% from the floor and also playing on the Elite NC AAU program.

Barker was a three-sport athlete in high school playing baseball, basketball, and football. Off-the-court Barker has had strong academic accolades as well, finishing on the A Honor Roll during his senior year of high school.
