Mens Basketball to Host Tyrek Coger Classic

Wilmington, NC (October 27, 2023) - Cape Fear Men's Basketball is excited to announce the inaugural Tyrek Coger Classic tournament to kick off the season in the coming weeks. The tournament is named after Tyrek Coger, a Cape Fear basketball alumni who passed away in 2016. Tyrek was a standout basketball player at CFCC from 2014-2016. He transferred to Oklahoma State University, where Tyrek experienced a medical emergency during team training and passed away due to a heart condition. He is remembered for his laughter, passion for success, talent, and resilience.

The “Tyrek Coger Classic” brings teams together from across North Carolina and Maryland for a weekend of competition, camaraderie, and remembrance.

The game schedule for the weekend, per the Cape Fear Men's Basketball 2023-2024 official game schedule page, is as follows (all schedule updates will be available on the Cape Fear Men's Basketball official schedule page):

This tournament serves as a way to unite the two local teams of Brunswick and Cape Fear together for a common purpose.
