Cape Fear Men's Basketball Goes 1 for 1 This Weekend

Wilmington, NC (February 17, 2024) - Cape Fear Men's Basketball faced two Region 10 Conference opponents this weekend and finished out with 1 win and 1 loss - keeping their #3 spot in the conference rankings.

On Friday night, the Sea Devils took the floor against the Caldwell Cobras, who hold the #1 spot in the conference. Cape Fear made a solid effort on offense as they moved the ball quickly and finished strong on a few important fast breaks. However, the Cobras were on fire from the 3-point line and were able to expose some flaws in the Sea Devils' defense. Coupled with a few off-kilter calls from the officiating team on the court, the Sea Devils hung in as long as they could until they lost by a slim 90-85. Korey Richardson was the leading scorer for CFCC as he finished the game with 19 points and 11 rebounds with 3 assists and 2 steals.

"It was a really good college basketball game with back-and-forth play for most of regulation," says Head Coach Mark Lane. "Very proud of how we battled. Shoutout to Truman Claytor for hitting some big shots down the stretch and Avion Pinner's energy throughout the game to keep everyone locked in."

Moving into Saturday's matchup, the Sea Devils faced the Denmark Tech Panthers. The Sea Devils took their lessons from the previous night's loss and implemented changes immediately - making efficient and poised defensive stops and staying both patient and vigilant on their offensive end. While all of Cape Fear's active players got a piece of the action this afternoon, Korey Richardson led the charge once again with 26 points, 10 rebounds, and 5 assists. Knoah Carver followed close behind with 24 points, while workhorse Moses Tufts proved reliable once again with 13 points and 6 rebounds.

"We responded well after a tough loss last night," remarks Coach Lane. "Knoah Carver gave us a huge spark in the middle of play when he hit four or five consecutive shots. We'll hold our spot in the top 3 and look forward to our next game."

Cape Fear Men's Basketball will return to the Schwartz Center next Saturday, February 24th, to take on Spartanburg Methodist at 3 PM.
