Glen Allen, VA (November 6th, 2023) - Cape Fear Men's Basketball opened their season on the road in part of the Statesmen Tip-Off Showcase hosted by Richard Bland Community College. The Sea Devils faced off with the Harcum Bears of Bryn Mawr, PA: a competitive team that typically receives votes in the National Division I team rankings throughout the season. After a tough battle, Cape Fear fell short 81-75.

The Sea Devils came out strong with a 38-31 lead in the first half over the Bears. Moving into the second half, the Bears gained momentum and capitalized on a few errors from the Sea Devils to pull through with a lead. Cape Fear continued to fight for possession and lock things down defensively to keep the score close.

Towards the end of the second half, both teams were neck-and-neck as both teams made it to the free throw line in the double bonus to attempt game-deciding points.

Truman Claytor led the Sea Devils in scoring 21 points while Jefferson McLamb had 12 and Daniel Lubamba scored 8 and played an important role in Cape Fear's intensity coming off of the bench.

"We came up short, but our guys played hard," says Head Coach Mark Lane. "It's just the little things that we talk about in practice every day that we need to implement moving into the next few games at home."

Cape Fear Men's Basketball will open their home season with the Tyrek Coger Classic this coming weekend on Friday, November 10th as they take on CCBC Cantonsville at 7 PM in the Schwartz Center.
