Men’s Soccer Falls to Hurricanes in Home Opener

Score: CFCC 1, Louisburg 3

Location: North Campus Soccer Stadium - Wilmington, NC

Records: CFCC 0-1, Louisburg 2-1

In Short: The Sea Devils open up their season at home with a physical matchup between two competitive teams throughout the card-heavy game set.

Highlights: The Sea Devils fought through a competitive duel against the Louisburg College Hurricanes that ultimately resulted in a loss on their home field. Despite an array of fast breaks lead by Freshman striker Luke Carlin, CFCC had a difficult time breaking through the Hurricanes' defensive press. Undeterred by Louisburg's movement in their defensive end, Freshman Midfielder SeanPaul Negron was able to put the Sea Devils on the board early on with a skillful assist from Casey Ly (Fr.). The Sea Devils kept a solid defensive presence in the backfield with strong leadership from starting goalkeeper Matthew Baker (Fr.) but were unable to combat the Hurricanes' cohesive offensive unit. The discipline exercised by Hurricanes Yusuke Kobayashi (Soph.) earned him a hat trick for the game to lead Louisburg.

The physicality of the match took its toll on the Sea Devils as Freshman Defender Asiimwe Ironside received a Red Card for excessive force towards the opposing team.

Up Next: The Sea Devils return home next Saturday, September 25 to take on non-conference opponent Eastern Florida State College Titans (3-4) at 12:00 PM following the Sea Devils Women's Soccer match at 10:00 AM.
