In Short: The Sea Devils lost a hard-fought battle, but fell short versus Patrick Henry

Highlights:

After a challenging matchup against an evenly matched conference opponent, the Sea Devils were unable to get on the board and ultimately ended the match in a loss. The first half began with high-tempo attacks from both teams and the Sea Devils kept things neck-and-neck with the Patriots throughout. Moving into the second half of the match, the Patriots caught the Sea Devils off guard with a free kick that led to their first and only goal of the game. With the leadership and fortutude of Defensive Sophomore Ryland Hawksby, the Sea Devils worked tirelessly to stablize their defensive shape and keep the Patriots at bay for most of the match. Despite efforts from workhorse Logan Wipperfurth (Fr.) to keep the team composed and the offensive tenacity of Marcello Afonso (Fr.) on the front line, the Sea Devils were not able to recover from the Patriot's lead in the end. "That's a tough one to lose." said Head Coach C.W. Ponton. "We've shown that we can compete with our opponents, but now we need to show we can see games out."

While another loss in the books is not ideal, the Sea Devils are determined to get back on the pitch and continue to refine their offensive strategy. "Still looking to continue our improvement and growth as a team but a lot of positives to take away from today" says Assistant Coach Nate Torbett.

Up Next: The Sea Devils return home this Saturday, October 2 to take on SMU at 4PM at North Campus Soccer Stadium.
