Sea Devils Persevere Through 2OT Draw

Score: CFCC 0, Wake Tech

Location: North Campus Soccer Stadium - Castle Hayne, NC

Record: 1-4-1

In Short: After double overtime, the Sea Devils and the Wake Tech Eagles ended the match in a tie after a hard-fought battle.

Highlights: The Sea Devils endured a grueling 110 minutes of play, but were not able to solidify the match over the Eagles and ended the game 0-0. After losing Isaac Johnson (Fr.) to a red card in the first half, the Sea Devils played man-down the rest of the match. Despite being numbers down, the team endured an intense battle and were able to keep the Eagles at bay from match start to the final minutes of the second overtime period.

Now fully recovered from concussed injury, goalkeeper Ethan James (Fr.) had a lights-out match debut with his most prominent highlight being a 2nd half Penalty Kick save that kept the game tied against the Eagle's offensive pursuits. "Ethan James was outstanding in net for us today...and was crucial in keeping the clean sheet, remarked Assistant Coach Nate Torbett. Although the offensive line was not able to capitalize on the scoring opportunities in front of the net, center-back pairing Caleb Woodard (Fr.) and Ryland Hawksby (Soph.) were crucial in the Sea Devil's defensive success as they were able to shut out the Eagles.

"To play half of the game of man down and still control a significant amount it's not something that is easy to do but that is something we were able to pull off today," says Head Coach C.W. Ponton. "While I would have liked to [win] one, we did all we could to do - so there's no doubt that I am proud of the guys for their hard work today."
