In Short: The Sea Devils earned a solid team-earned win against the SMC Pioneers on their home pitch

Highlights: Patience was definitely a virtue tonight as the Sea Devils came out on top with their first win of the season over SMU. After hanging on for some incredibly close losses in the last few weeks, the Sea Devils have been hungry for a win and arrived at the match today with composure and confidence in one another. Goalkeeper Matthew Baker (Fr.) kept the defensive line in sync in the backfield while completing crucial saves for the Sea Devils throughout the match - especially during a series of Corner Kicks that seemed never-ending. The defensive line held their own throughout and were definitely put to the test during the intense back-and-forth. Midfielder and Freshman Logan Wipperfurth logged a full 90 minutes with great poise and served as a pivotal player in transition between the front and back lines.

After the first half finished scoreless, Jeffrey Abrego (Fr.) secured the first goal of the match for the Sea Devils off of a photo-worthy free kick. He also logged the other two assists on the attacking end of the field to further solidify the win. "His prowess from set pieces proved to be pivotal as all of our goals today came from the dead ball," remarked Assistant Coach Spencer Goodman.

"This is what we can do," says Head Coach C.W. Ponton. "I can't say enough [about] how proud I am of the guys right now"

Up Next: The Sea Devils face off again with Louisburg College on the road on Wednesday, October 6 at 3PM.
