Women’s Basketball to Host Carly Rae Classic

The CFCC Women's Basketball team and Sea Devils Athletics are proud to host the inaugural Carly Rae Classic basketball tournament to celebrate the life in memoriam of former Women's Basketball player Carly Rae Baron. The event will take place at the Schwartz Center on Downtown Wilmington Campus on Friday, November 5th, and Saturday, November 6th.

This family-friendly event will feature activities specifically for kids throughout the weekend, including Free Admission for kids who sign up to attend the tournament. Kids have the opportunity to participate in activities such as face painting, post-game pictures/autographs with the CFCC team, youth basketball team halftime participation, and more. For more information on all the fun activities available for kids, visit GoSea.Devils.com/CRC.

Prior to Saturday's final game between CFCC and CCBC Essex at 3 PM, Carly's family will join us on the court to celebrate Carly's life and revisit the retiring of her jersey from last season.

Carly Rae Baron was a Wilmington native who played basketball for the Sea Devils from 2016-2018 before transferring to UNCW to pursue a degree in Communication Studies, where she then further developed a passion for modeling. Carly was known among her family, teammates, and peers as a compassionate and driven individual with a kind soul that left a lasting impact on our Wilmington community. Upon her passing in the Fall of 2020, the CFCC Athletics Department officially retired her jersey, Number 24, and began making plans to host this tournament in her honor every year beginning with the current 2021-2022 Women's Basketball season.

"We are excited to start this tournament that keeps Carly's legacy alive," remarks Assistant Women's Basketball Coach Taylor Todd-Williams. "The Carly Rae Classic gives the community an opportunity to join together in her name and love for basketball."
