Women's Basketball is Tournament Bound

Cape Fear Women's Basketball finished their Region 10 Regular Season with a record of 13-4 in conference play and 15-5 overall. And after a full week of hard work and courageous effort, the Sea Devils have emerged as Region 10 Tournament Champions and will receive a bid to the Division II NJCAA National Championships in Port Huron, MI next week.

Sea Devils Women's Basketball won their last Region 10 Tournament in 2019 and made their last NJCAA Tournament appearance in the same year. Women's Basketball Head Coach Trae Bryant finished the season as Region 10 Women's Basketball Coach of the Year while Jada Nowlin earned All-Region 1st Team, Rashauna Grant earned All-Region 2nd Team, and Akyia King earned All-Region 3rd Team honors.

Cape Fear defeated #7 seeded Brunswick and #3 seeded USC Salkehatchie in Region 10 Tournament play last week before traveling to Wake Tech in Raleigh, NC to compete for the Region 10 title this past Saturday afternoon.

While the Championship matchup was hard-fought on both sides, the Sea Devils maintained their lead throughout the majority of the game and made the most of their opportunities to score. They played a fast-paced, detail oriented game that ultimately led to their victory over the well-matched Wake Tech Eagles.

"Super proud of the growth everybody has shown throughout the season," reflects Head Women's Basketball Coach Trae Bryant. "Even more proud of the gang on how they progressively got better and more mature throughout the year."

Sea Devils Women's Basketball stands alongside Cape Fear Women's Soccer and Women's Volleyball as Region 10 and Southeast District Champions with bids to their respective NJCAA Championship tournaments. For the first time in Sea Devils Athletics history, Cape Fear has had 3 of their 5 collegiate Athletics teams both win their Region and receive bids to the National Tournament in the same school year - making this one of the winningest years in Sea Devils Athletics history.

"We feel like we are just hitting our stride as one and we couldn't be more excited about the timing," says Coach Bryant. "It's a testament to them for seeing the light at the end of the tunnel when it mattered most…I love the idea of this version of our team - coaches and players - competing in Port Huron."
