Sea Devil Hoops Dawn High Hopes

Wilmington, NC – If you walk in the Schwartz Center you will see 15 young men on a mission.  A mission to return to national prominence and restore the winning tradition at CFCC.  The Sea Devils head into their 2012-13 campaign once again with high expectations, as they return All-Region selection Faronte Drakeford to the front court, along with running mate Landon Atterberry.  Drakeford and Atterberry combined to dump in 20.8 points per game while snatching 12.2 rebounds per contest last season.  "Both these young men had terrific off-season's and are primed for a break-out year," commented Sea Devils head coach Ryan Mantlo.  The off-season also saw the addition of big time prospects to help bolster the front court.  Freshman Anthony Williams, and sophomore transfer Kyle Keck, headline the 2012 frontcourt recruiting class.  Williams, a 6'6 forward from North Charleston, South Carolina brings a wealth of athleticism and toughness to the Sea Devils.  Keck, who hails from St. Petersburg, Florida, will look to provide the true center position for Cape Fear.

The Sea Devil's backcourt returns Terrance Hampton, Tony Menton and Ben JacobsonTJ Nixon and Ricardo Jones also return to the backcourt off of their red-shirt seasons.  "Tony has tremendous upside and his work ethic has been impeccable thus far this season," said Mantlo.  "Ben and Terrance can really stretch the defense and having two point guards that understand the offense is a huge bonus."  The Sea Devils struck big this off-season adding six guards to the mix.  Phil Wallace, a 6'1 point guard from Pinehurst, North Carolina brings a calming effect to the Sea Devils back-court, while Parris Manning, Larry Sumter, and Dantae Carson add high flying aerobatics.   JT Murphy and Eugene Jarrett provide sharp shooting skills to round out the 2012 recruiting class.  "I couldn't be happier with the young men we brought into this program.  They are first class people and will not only be champions on the floor, they will represent our institution with class in the community," commented Mantlo.

The Sea Devils hit the hardwood this weekend as they travel to Raleigh, North Carolina for the Wake Tech Classic.  The tournament pairs CFCC with Richard Bland CC Friday evening at 5:00 pm, and concludes with CFCC taking on Wytheville CC Saturday at 3:00 pm.
