Women's Soccer Continues Unbeaten Run

Louisburg, NC - Cape Fear women's soccer continued its unbeaten run with a 4-0 victory on the road over Louisburg College.

The Sea Devils, known for scoring in bunches this season, found it difficult to score in the first half. They managed 22 shot attempts in the half, but only one on target. That lone shot ended up breaking the tie, however, as defender Cheyenne Floyd scored in the 31st minute to give Cape Fear a 1-0 lead. Floyd found the upper corner of the goal after forward Carly Higgins found her on a nice assist.

The teams entered halftime with the one goal separating them. A pep talk during intermission from head coach Ryan Deppa inspired better play as the second half began. Four minutes into the half, midfielder Janessa Annis put Cape Fear up 2-0 by beating three Louisburg players with the ball and then hitting a solid strike past the goalkeeper.

Higgins, the team's leading goalscorer, increased her season total in the 57th minute thanks to an assist from sophomore attacking midfielder Sierra Raynor. The Sea Devils maintained a 3-0 lead until the 88th minute, when forward Ava John found Raynor, who buried it into the net.

Goalkeepers Kenedy Green and C.J. Garvey split time again and combined for five saves.

Cape Fear managed 40 shot attempts for the game.

Coach Deppa praised his squad after the game for the way they handled a difficult game, particularly in the first half.

"The team handled a challenging day on the road today. They were able to adapt to the adversity and find solutions."

Deppa was pleased they responded in the second half, and believe it is indicative of how they are growing as team as the season moves on.

"I was very pleased and proud of the team's effort to respond after a tough half time talk and go out together to make it better, " said Deppa. "They are getting stronger as the season moves forward."

Cape Fear is now 12-0 overall, and 9-0 in conference play. Their next game is scheduled for Saturday, October 14th, where they will face USC Lancaster at home at 5:00 p.m. The game is their final regular season home game of the season, so be sure to come out and support the team as they wind down the regular season and look towards playoffs.
