Spartanburg, SC - Cape Fear women's soccer advanced to the NJCAA Region 10 championship, defeating Louisburg College, 1-0.

The Sea Devils entered the conference tournament ranked #1 in the conference and #12 ranked in the country. The Hurricanes were the #4 seed in the tournament, and were coming off a 5-1 win over USC Lancaster.

It was an incredibly close game, as Louisburg made it difficult for the normally high-scoring Sea Devils (who average 6.8 goals per game) to find the back of the net. Louisburg goalkeeper Rachel Witkin was stellar in goal, making a number of key saves.

The difference came in the 66th minute, as Cape Fear was awarded a penalty kick, which Carly Higgins took and converted.

We are very proud of our girls for handling the score line today to advance to the Region 10 Championship," said head coach Ryan Deppa. "They have worked very hard this season and we continue to be proud of their effort to do what is needed for this team's journey. We have a great group of people on this team. Assistant Coach Murray and I are excited to watch them play in the championship tomorrow."

The championship game is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, October 29th. The Sea Devils will take on Spartanburg Methodist, the #2 seed in the tournament, who defeated Patrick Henry Community College 5-0 in the semi-final.
