Belair, MD - Cape Fear women's soccer lost to Harford Community College, 2-0, in the NJCAA District L Championship.

The Sea Devils entered today's game undefeated at 17-0, while the Fighting Owls of Harford were 18-1 and winners of 16 in a row. Harford was also the highest scoring team in the NJCAA Division 1, scoring 138 goals this season and conceding just seven.

Cape Fear got behind early, as Harford's Alexandria Adams scored in the 15th minute to give her team the lead. The Fighting Owls doubled their lead eight minutes later, as Rachel Bohli scored in the 23rd minute.

The 2-0 hole put the Sea Devils in a tough spot, as Harford was able to lock down defensively. That said, the team dug in, particularly in the second half, as they attempted to mount a comeback. Goalkeeper C.J. Garvey put in a stellar performance after conceding; however, making 12 saves to prevent Harford from building on their lead.

"Harford did a great job with us today," said head coach Ryan Deppa. "They are a very good program and have a great staff."

Despite the loss, Deppa emphasized that today's result wouldn't change what the team has accomplished this season.

"Our kids worked hard and took us on a heck of a journey. This one game will not define this team."

Deppa then reflected on the season, which was one to remember.

"It has been a pleasure and an honor coaching this team. We had a great support system of people that helped this team and supported this team in so many different ways through the past year."

The team will lose some key players as they graduate and move on from Cape Fear, but Deppa believes the returning players will be able to continue the momentum gained from this season.

"We lose some key players and great teammates from the 2017 team that all have contributed to a very special season which include Janessa Annis, Sydney Parker, Kenedy Green, Alaina Capps, Sierra Raynor, Ava John, and Melani Anderson. [But], we have a hard working, fun group of talented teammates to build on for 2018, and I am confident that they will do what is needed in the offseason to keep us on track in the classroom and on the field for the upcoming season."

Cape Fear finishes the season at 17-1 overall, and 14-0 in conference play.
