In Short: Cape Fear Women's Soccer showcased their young and invigorated 2022 team against the USC Sumter Fire Ants.

Highlights:

The Sea Devils hosted the USC Sumter Fire Ants in their regular season debut this past Saturday evening. With most of their starting 11 being new freshmen to the squad, the Sea Devils were excited to take the pitch for the first time in Wilmington, NC to showcase what they can do as a unit.

Cape Fear wasted no time as the first set of goals came from Freshmen Alyssa Wright and Maya McDonald. Wright finished the match tallying 3 goals and 1 assists with McDonald taking home 2 goals and 1 assist.

Other notable stats come from Freshman Halie Blizzard with 1 goal and 2 assists, while Freshman Alissa Campano finishes with 1 goal and 1 assist. The defensive MVPs of the match consisted of Emma Bell, Emma Beehler, Ashley Bowling, and goalkeeper Micah King who were able to successfully lock down the backfield and keep the Fire Ants from any major offensive opportunities.

"What a way to start the season," reflects Head Women's Soccer Coach C.W. Ponton. "I'm so proud of our team in such hot conditions. It was a full team win and that's what we want from this season. Now we celebrate today and turn our eyes to next Wednesday."
