Womens Soccer Falls to Wake Tech

In Short: While the Sea Devils controlled most of the possession on the field, the Wake Tech Eagles took a 2-1 win over Cape Fear.

Highlights:

Cape Fear traveled to Raleigh, NC for their second matchup against the Wake Tech Eagles this season. After competing against the Eagles at home and earning a 3-0 result, the Sea Devils were hopeful for another conference win to round out the last week of regular season play before the Region 10 Tournament.

The Sea Devils started the match strong with Alyssa Wright scoring the first goal of the match in the 15th minute. They continued to control the tempo and possess the ball on attack for the majority of the game. Unfortunately for the Sea Devils, the Wake Tech Eagles were able to capitalize on their opportunities and challenge Cape Fear on their defensive end.

Sophomore Goalkeeper Catherine Jupena tallied 13 saves for the Sea Devils to keep the Eagles at bay, but Wake Tech was able to break through the Cape Fear defense and make the most of their opportunities on the cage for a 2-1 victory.

Cape Fear made a solid push towards the end of the match with a few promising opportunities to tie things up, but it was not enough to come back from their initial 2 goal deficit.

"We will remember what this feels like and we will all be better for it," remarks Head Coach C.W. Ponton. "We had many opportunities early on but didn't put them away - and we are looking to improve our focus and effort moving forward."
