Women's Soccer Is 1-0 In Conference Play

In Short: CFCC Women's Soccer turns things around to defeat the Louisburg Hurricanes and solidify another Region 10 Conference win.

Highlights:

The Sea Devils traveled to Louisburg, NC to take on the Louisburg College Hurricanes on their home pitch. Cape Fear had the opportunity to compete against various non-conference opponents early on in the season to prepare for this moment against their first Region 10 Conference opponent of the year.

The Hurricanes hit the ground running early on to establish an aggressive attacking presence on the field. They challenged the Sea Devils to work together as a unit and hold their ground on the defensive side of the ball. The Sea Devils responded early on as they upped the tempo and communication - leading to the first goal of the match by Maya McDonald assisted by Peri Farrar.

Freshman Peri Farrar continued with that offensive momentum with a beautiful header assisted by Maya McDonald to make the score 2-0 in the second half, followed by another goal in the second to solidify her and McDonald's presence as an attacking pair.

The Sea Devils' defensive stronghold was held by Ashley Bowling and Jewelia Lindsey, while Trinay Rudd was a force to be reckoned with in midfield transition.

In the second half, Cape Fear incurred an unfortunate own goal that provided momentum for Louisburg to even the score 3-2. However, the Sea Devils continued to fight as goalkeeper Micah King had a few clutch saves to keep the Hurricanes at bay. Alissa Campano played a major role in locking down momentum on the left side to prevent many of Louisburg's attacking runs from succeeding in the final minutes. The Sea Devils finished the match with their first conference win and a successful showing against the Hurricanes.

"Very proud of the team today," says Head Coach C.W. Ponton. "I was surprised with how physical our opponent was, but the team stepped up and led us to victory. They dealt with the onslaught of Louisburg for the first 20 minutes or so, but we were able to turn the tides."

Up Next: The Sea Devils have a quick turnaround as they will take on Patrick & Henry this Friday, September 23rd, in Axton, VA at 4PM.
