Women's Soccer Falls to Division I Daytona State

In Short: Cape Fear Women's Soccer falls to NJCAA Region 8 Division I Daytona State Falcons.

Highlights:

The Sea Devils took on the Florida-native Daytona State Falcons yesterday afternoon at North Campus Soccer Field. The Falcons kicked off the match with a solid level of speed and physicality that ultimately led to their success throughout.

Freshman goalkeeper Micah King fought hard against the aggressiveness of the Falcons as they totaled 29 shots across the span of the game. The Sea Devils were able to execute a few key attacking runs to try and involve Alyssa Wright and Maya McDonald up top, but the Falcons remained poised and were able to execute their defensive strategy wel.

Freshman Halie Blizzard was a key component on transition in the midfield alongside Trinay Rudd and Skyler Watson who put in the hard work to contain the Falcons as much as possible down the sidelines. Unfortunately for the Sea Devils, the Falcons came out on top at the end of the match.

"We needed to play opponents like these to get us prepared," remarks Head Coach C.W. Ponton. "I am confident this will benefit us as the season goes on - and I appreciate the praise from the Daytona State coaches for our efforts. We take this one on the chin and move forward to our first Region 10 game next week."

Up Next: The Sea Devils will travel to Louisburg, NC to take on the Louisburg Hurricanes on Wednesday, September 21 at 4PM.
