Volleyball Finishes the Weekend 1-1

In Short: The Sea Devils earned Friday's win versus Bryant & Stratton, but fell short in a close matchup with Richard Bland for their first loss of the season.

 

Friday: CFCC vs. Bryant & Stratton

 

Score: CFCC 3, Bryant & Stratton 0 (25-13, 25-14, 25-22)

Location: Norfolk, VA

 

Highlights: CFCC was able to solidify another win versus the Bobcats (now 6-3) on Friday with yet another clean sweep on the court. The Sea Devils ultimately controlled the tempo of the match from start to finish, as they earned a total of 15 aces as a unit. Outside Hitter AB Averett (Fr.) was an early standout with a total of  5 Kills and 3 Blocks to assist her team in their victory over the Bobcats. The Sea Devils were able to finish the night with a consistent offensive performance to earn the sweep and earn an 8-0 record overall.

 

Saturday: CFCC vs. Richard Bland

 

Score: CFCC 2, Richard Bland 3 (25-19, 25-22, 18-25, 17-25, 7-15)

Location: South Prince George, VA

 

Highlights: The Sea Devils hit the ground running after their Friday night win and carried the momentul into their matchup against the Richard Bland Statesmen (6-3) on Saturday. They were able to contain the Statesmen defensively with the help of Grace Pulido (Fr) and Claire Smith (Fr.) who finished the match with a combined 45 kills for the Sea Devils. Meanwhile on offense, Kara Walker (Fr.) totalled 14 kills while Naomi Pegues (Soph.) led the team in earning 16 assists.

 

Unfortunately, the Sea Devils lost their rhythm moving into the 3rd set and were not able to keep up with the relentless Statesmen offense. While they fought hard to keep things close in final sets of the match, they were unable to get back into their offensive swing and finished with their first loss of the season.

 

Head Coach Colby Rosser said it best: "It's always heartbreaking to take a loss but this one exposed some weaknesses for us and will ultimately make us a stronger team."


Up Next: The Sea Devils (now 8-1) head to Fayetteville, NC to take on Fayetteville Tech on Tuesday, September 21 at 6PM.
