Volleyball

CFCC vs. Bryant & Stratton (VA)

Score: CFCC 3, Bryant & Stratton 0 (26-24, 25-7, 25-9)

Highlights: The Sea Devils earned another impressive sweep over a conference opponent in our home arena. After a competitive first set that kept the Sea Devils on their toes, they were able to lock on the defense and utilize both their teamwork and deceptive offensive strategy to finish both of the following sets quickly. The team came out in the second and third sets composed and relentless in their attack - stepping up their side-out game immensely since the beginning of the season. Head Coach Colby Rosser remarked that it was a "Great response to being pushed hard in the first set...glad to get the sweep."

Freshman Kara Walker finished the match with 9 kills and 5 aces, while Charly Meade (Fr.) and Madalyn Rinck (Fr.) finished with a combined 11 kills between the two.

Saturday, October 9th

Volleyball

CFCC vs. Richard Bland

Score: CFCC 3, Richard Bland 1

Highlights: The Sea Devils started off a little out of synch in the first set of the match against the Richard Bland Statesmen, but were able to persevere in the following sets to finish the match strong. After re-establishing their offensive flow, the Sea Devils were able to connect on attack and establish dominance over the Statesmen to close the match with a win. On the defensive side, the Sea Devils stayed true to their system and set the team up for success offensively throughout. "Our setters spread the offensive well and allowed our hitters to be successful," says Head Coach Colby Rosser.

Charly Meade (Fr.) hit a season high of 12 kills in one match, while Kara Walker (Fr.) and Madalyn Rinck (Fr.) earned 9 kills each. Freshman Mya Klein was invaluable throughout with a double-double of 10 digs and 15 assists.

Men's Soccer

CFCC vs. Wake Tech

Score: CFCC 0, Wake Tech 2

Highlights: The Sea Devils played a competitive 90 minutes as a cohesive unit, but were unable to finish it through to the end as they allowed 2 last-minute goals by the Eagles towards the tail end of the match. While they controlled the tempo and stayed levelheaded in the backfield for the majority of the match, Wake Tech took advantage of their offensive opportunities and were able to finish the match on top. Freshman workhorse Logan Wipperfurth was poised in the midfield and was essential to the Sea Devils' transitional play, while Seanpaul Negron (Fr.) kept the Eagles' defense honest and was crucial to the Sea Devils' attack on the pitch.

"We can't control most of the game and allow not only one goal, but two in the final three minutes," says Head Coach C.W. Ponton. "We gave opportunities and they took advantage of them. We have to put our chances away."

"The game simply came down to us not taking advantage of the opportunities we had and in return, we were punished for switching off in the final minutes of the game," remarked Assistant Coach Nate Torbett. "We have to have short-term memory as we face them again Monday."

Up Next: The Men's Soccer team takes on Wake Tech again this afternoon, October 11 at 4 PM at North Campus Soccer Stadium. The Volleyball team returns to the Schwartz Center on Tuesday, October 19 vs. Fayetteville Tech at 6 PM.
