Men's Basketball Falls Short in Overtime

Morristown, TN - Cape Fear men's basketball lost in overtime to Walters State Community College, 102-99.

While the game went into overtime, Cape Fear found themselves down by 26 at one point. Instead of laying down, they fought back, forcing overtime and nearly coming away with the win.

"Tonight is the proudest I've ever been of our team this season," said assistant coach Mark Lane. "It was gut-check time and we responded. To be down 26 in the second half and to be able to force the game into overtime takes tremendous heart and toughness."

Sophomore Alston Davis led the team with 25 points 10 rebounds, six assists, and four steals. Sophomore Zaqwaun Matthews also finished with 25 points, while sophomore Jerick Haynes added 11 points, six rebounds, and six assists.

While they came up short, Coach Lane believes his team is improving.

"Even though the game didn't end the way we would have liked, we are still getting better and that's what's most important. We now have some time to rest our bodies and get ready for our tournament in New York next week."

Cape Fear falls to 3-4 on the season. They play next on Thursday, November 30th, where they will take on Baltimore City Community College in the Monroe College Classic. Gametime is set for 2:00 p.m.
