Men's Basketball Drops Close Game

Bolivia, NC - Cape Fear men's basketball lost a close game to Shooting For Greatness Prep, 89-86, in the final game of the Brunswick CC Holiday Classic.

Freshman guard Donte Tatum led the Sea Devils in scoring with 23 points, while sophomore forward Zaqwaun Matthews followed right behind with 22. Sophomore forward Alston Davis added 15, and freshman guard Jalen Cameron finished with 11.

Shooting For Greatness edged Cape Fear by shooting prolifically from the 3-point line, including a game winning 3.

"You have to give them a ton of credit," said head coach Ryan Mantlo. "They made 18 threes tonight and hit the last one to beat us."

While the result is an unfortunate end to an otherwise strong weekend for Cape Fear, coach Mantlo hopes his team will turn the loss into a positive moving forward.

"This will leave a bitter taste in our mouth and hopefully that will benefit us over the break."

Cape Fear falls to 9-6 on the season. With the Holiday Classic wrapped up, Cape Fear is off until 2018. Their next game is scheduled for Saturday, January 6th, where they will take on Walters State Community College at home at 3:00 p.m.
