Cape Fear Women's Volleyball Continues Winning Ways

Wilmington, NC - Cape Fear women's volleyball continued their winning streak, defeating Pitt Community College 3-0. Cali Watson finished with 10 kills and six blocks, while Tressa Amico hit .428, while finishing with 10 blocks and six digs. Amber Tyndall had 9 kills, and hit .409.

The first set was full of energy, which both teams exchanging points early on. Cape Fear would eventually hold a small lead, but great defense from Pitt prevented the Sea Devils from building on it in the early portion of the set.

Then, Cape Fear would pick their spots better, and jump out to a 12-5 lead, forcing Pitt to call timeout. Pitt would respond well following it, cutting into Cape Fear's lead and narrowing the score to 13-11.

Following a timeout of their own, Cape Fear would steadily build back their lead, aiding in part from misses by Pitt. The Sea Devils capitalized, attacking their opponent aggressively. After a competitive start, Cape Fear would take the first set 25-16.

Pitt held the lead briefly to start the second set, but then Cape Fear would run off a number of points to take an early 8-4 lead. They would build on it following a Pitt timeout, punishing their opponents with relentless attacks.

After a solid first set, the Sea Devils played much better in the second. They played with more focus and intensity, and Pitt had trouble handling the pressure. The result would see Cape Fear take the 2nd set easily, 25-12.

The third set would start much like the first two, with each team trading points until Cape Fear took a small lead.

The overall match intensity picked up as the set went on, with Cape Fear sensing a victory, and Pitt desperate to avoid the sweep. While Cape Fear maintained the lead, Pitt wouldn't allow them to run away with it, and kept the score close.

Despite Pitt's best efforts, however, Cape Fear wouldn't allow the comeback. After Pitt narrowed the lead to 16-12, Cape Fear would score 9 of the final 12 points to take the set 25-15.

This was the best we have played overall all season," said head coach Emily Coleman. "We passed extremely well and we're able to run our middles effortlessly."

The win improves Cape Fear's record to 14-6 on the season, and 13-1 in conference.

They are scheduled to play two games Saturday, October 22nd. The games are set to be played at 11 a.m. and 3 p.m.
