Cape Fear Women's Volleyball Wins 14th Match In a Row

Wilmington, NC - Cape Fear women's volleyball won its 14th match in a row, defeating Lenoir Community College 3-0.

"Very solid, all around team effort," said head coach Emily Coleman. "We came in, got the job done, and took care of business."

Lenoir had Cape Fear on their toes in the first set. Multiple times the Sea Devils had to dive to prevent the ball from hitting the floor, making a few miraculous saves to keep the point alive. The hustle would pay off in the early portion of the set, as they would hold a 11-6 lead over their opponent.

The Lancers would make a small comeback following a timeout, but the Sea Devils would stop the run and eventually take a 16-10 lead, forcing Lenior to take yet another timeout. Cape Fear would only increase their lead from there, however, scoring 9 out of the final 12 points of the set to win it 25-13.

After conceding the first point of the second set, Cape Fear would rally to score the next seven. Freshman Cali Watson was dominant during this stretch of play, completing two kills in a row.

The Sea Devils were dominant throughout the second set. After taking a commanding 12-3 lead, Lenoir would call timeout. It wouldn't slow Cape Fear down, though, as they would run away with the set, winning 25-6.

The Lancers would come out more composed in the third set, taking an early 5-1 lead. Cape Fear would cut into the lead a bit, but Lenior would remain ahead for the first part of the set.

Cape Fear would eventually tie the set at 10-10, before taking the lead. They would extend the lead to 17-10 before Lenoir would break the run. It would be too late to mount a comeback, however, as the Sea Devils remained in control for the rest of the set, and would go on to take it and the match 25-15.

The Sea Devils have two games remaining in the regular season. After a quick road trip on Wednesday, they will play their final home game on Friday against USC Lancaster. Asked what she would like to see from her team in their final home game, Coleman stated, "Energy from the very first point, communication from the very first point. We like to take a couple points off and then get going. We need to start off strong from the very beginning of the game."

Today's win improved the Sea Devils to 17-6 on the season, and 14-1 in conference.

Their next game is scheduled for Wednesday, October 26th, where they will take on Louisburg College on the road. Game time is set for 6:00 p.m.
