Womens Basketball Finishes Fayetteville

Wilmington, NC (November 8th, 2023) - After a long tournament weekend of play, Cape Fear Women's Basketball returned to the Schwartz Center on Tuesday night to compete in their first Region 10 Conference matchup of the season. After powering through a fast-paced game with many teammates out due to injury, the Sea Devils defeated the Trojans and earned their first conference win.

Cape Fear finished the first quarter with a 15-12 point lead over Fayetteville Tech. The Sea Devils struggled to finish on drives to pull out farther in their lead but continued to push the pace of the game and create opportunities for each other to score. Cape Fear led the Trojans 29-23 at the end of the first half.

The Sea Devils kicked things into high gear in the second half and found themselves leading with 20 points over the Trojans. However, in the third and fourth quarters of play, both teams found themselves in foul trouble and had to make adjustments to keep themselves competitive. Due to foul trouble on the floor and Cape Fear's slim numbers off the bench due to injuries, the Sea Devils played the final minutes of the game with just 4 players. Fayetteville Tech managed to close the score gap in their one-man-up scenario, but Cape Fear locked in defensively to prevent the Trojans from taking over in the final minutes.

Jaylah Henderson led the team with a double-double of 14 rebounds and 12 points. Jaci Bolden finished with 27 points and 4 steals for a well-rounded offensive game as a point guard.

"We know that we started off slow, but our girls found the motivation to make a change moving past the first quarter," says Head Coach Taylor Todd-Williams. "Fayetteville Tech did a solid job utilizing their Fowards against our smaller team, but we were prepared for that and closed out the win."

Cape Fear Women's Basketball returns to the Schwartz Center on Sunday, November 12th at 2 PM against Cleveland CC.
