CFCC Women's Basketball Team Breaking Records

Wilmington, NC (February 1, 2024) – The Cape Fear Women's Basketball team is rewriting history with an unprecedented 16-0 start to their season: breaking the record for the most wins since the start of the season. The 2022-2023 women's basketball team held the previous record with a 13-0 start.

After defeating the local Brunswick Dolphins 90-41 in Wednesday night's game, the Sea Devils have established themselves as a force to be reckoned with. Under the leadership of first-year Head Women's Basketball Coach Taylor Todd-Williams, formerly the Assistant Coach for the 2021-2022 and 2022-2023 seasons, the team has thrived - despite sporting an entirely new roster of freshman and transfer players. This season, the team has asserted dominance in the Region 10 Conference, securing the top spot and attracting national attention with a #16 ranking in the NJCAA Division II top 20 Women's Basketball programs in the country.

What makes their achievements impressive is their ability to overcome challenges this season. The team has demonstrated resilience and determination even with key players sidelined due to injuries and illnesses. At times, they have had to play with fewer than 5 players on the court because of bench shortages.

"As a team, we've faced challenges head-on and grown stronger with every game," says Head Coach Taylor Todd-Williams. "Our success isn't just about winning; it's about the work the girls put in every time they step onto the court. I couldn't be prouder of their determination."

The Sea Devils will travel to Louisburg, NC to take on the Louisburg Hurricanes this Saturday, February 3rd at 1 PM. Louisburg currently holds the #3 spot in the Region 10 Conference as they face off with Cape Fear at the #1 spot.
