Sea Devils Beat Jaguars for 5-0 Conference Record

Wilmington, NC (December 12, 2023) - After competing on the road and taking a week off from gameplay, Cape Fear Women's Basketball returned to the Schwartz Center to take on the Johnston CC Jaguars. The Sea Devils finished the Region 10 Conference matchup with a win, which puts them at 5-0 in the conference and 7-0 overall for the season thus far.

Cape Fear began the first quarter with a 7-0 lead over the Jaguars before Johnston was able to put points on the board. While the Sea Devils moved the ball well and created opportunities for strong drives down the paint, they struggled to finish the plays they created and put the ball in the hoop. Meanwhile, the Jaguars executed a few strong drives of their own moving into the second quarter as they capitalized on CFCC's miscommunications and turnovers. Although Cape Fear had a strong lead at the end of the first half, the Sea Devils looked to regroup and tighten up loose ends.

The Sea Devils took the floor in the second half reinvigorated, making better ball movement choices, and overall recentering around their own brand of CFCC basketball. They continued to widen the score gap and make big plays, including getting scrappy for 50-50 balls and acting quickly to score off of turnovers by the Jaguars. After it was all said and done, the Sea Devils finished on top with an over 20-point lead over Johnston.

Ciarra Sims with a great start to her season with the Sea Devils, as she finished the matchup with 19 points and 10 rebounds as she begins to make her way back onto the court after her injury. Demya Chisholm had yet another well-rounded game with her strong ball movement and sound defensive presence - with 5 steals and 5 assists being her most notable statistic. Jaylah Henderson continues to put her body on the line for her team as she fights for rebounds and loose balls.

"We finished off strong and this was a solid team effort," remarks Head Coach Taylor Todd-Williams. "Welcoming Keashiana Murphy and Ciarra Sims back from injury was key for us as they both brought in great energy and skills that put us over the top. Glad we picked up the intensity more and more after each quarter."

Sea Devils Women's Basketball will take on Central Carolina back in the Schwartz Center on Thursday, December 14th at 6 PM.
