Wilmington, NC (March 3, 2024) - Cape Fear Women's Basketball celebrated Sophomore Night on Friday evening as they took on the Wake Tech Eagles in their final regular season matchup. The Sea Devils took down the Eagles 69-52 and solidified their spot as #2 in the Region 10 Conference tournament.
Cape Fear went up at the half 35-29, but had to fight through some size mismatches in the paint against the Eagles in order to operate offensively and get necessary rebounds. The Sea Devils fought for every point and while the Eagles went on a few short runs in the second half, Cape Fear shut things down in the 4th quarter. A few solid stops in a row followed by clutch fast breaks and 3-point sharp shooting put the Sea Devils on top to finish out the night.
Jaci Bolden finished with 31 points - 22 of which came in the 2nd half and especially in the 4th quarter with an 8 point run almost entirely of her own volition. Ciarra Sims finished with only 8 points, but was invaluable on the boards with 11 rebounds and 5 steals. Cape Fear overall forced 30 turnovers from the Eagles by the end of regulation.
Jaci Bolden receives Region 10 Women's Basketball Player of the Year honors, as well as a Region 10 All-Conference 1st Team selection. Khauri Little also earns her spot with Region 10 All-Conference 2nd Team honors.
Cape Fear Women's Basketball also had many players recognized for their academic achievements with Jaci Bolden, Kelly Holmgren, and Amyrikal Vaught receiving Region 10 Academic All-Region Team 2024 honors.
"After a long season with only 6 or 7 active players at a time, I'm very proud of our success," says Head Coach Taylor Todd-Williams. "They've played hard all season and they left it all out on the floor against Wake Tech. Shoutout to our Sophomores Demya and Jaci who played with great energy and passion."
Moving into tournament play this week, the Sea Devils will bypass the first round of Region 10 Conference Tournament play and will face the winner of the Johnston CC (#10) vs Fayetteville Tech CC (#7) matchup that will take place on Monday, March 4th. On Thursday, March 7th, the Sea Devils will compete in the Quarterfinals at 4 PM at Brunswick CC in Bolivia, NC.
