Women's Basketball Falls to Statesmen

Wilmington, NC (February 24, 2024) - Cape Fear Women's Basketball took the floor on Friday night to take on the Richard Bland Statesmen in another Region 10 Conference matchup. Richard Bland currently stands at #5 in the conference while Cape Fear holds the #2 spot.

The game started immediately with a tiff due to a jersey mixup by the Sea Devils, which put the Statesmen on the board early shooting technical foul shots. Both teams battled for possession in the first half, but Cape Fear finished the half with a 37-23 lead. While the Sea Devils continued their trend of forcing turnovers that lead to clean breakaway baskets, they struggled to make outside jumpers to pull the lead farther apart. Richard Bland added fuel to their fire in the second half and utilized their size under the rim to grab important rebounds.

Khauri Little led the charge on offense for the Sea Devils with 23 points and 6 rebounds. Ciarra Sims made a difference for the team with her offensive presence under the basket, as she finished with 10 points under the rim.

After fighting for every point in the final minutes play, a few turnovers and missed opportunities on the Sea Devils' part ultimately resulted in a win for the Statesmen and Cape Fear's 3rd conference loss of the season.

"We need to take care of the ball in the final minutes," says Head Coach Taylor Todd-Williams. "But we played great team basketball throughout the game and I respect Richard Bland for the way they came out and fought for the win."

Cape Fear Women's Basketball takes on Central Carolina CC this afternoon, February 24th, at 2 PM.
