Volleyball Opens the Season In Dominant Fashion

Wilmington, NC - Cape Fear Community College dropped just one set on Saturday as the Sea Devils swept a doubleheader against Guilford Tech and Potomac State College of WVU. 

In the opening match, Tressa Amico recorded 11 kills and 11 blocks, while Sydney Robinson and Bailey Toman recorded 10 kills apiece. Kayla Mathias served five aces and Chelsea Bailey carried the defense with 34 digs.

"We started a little slow, but picked it up at the end," said CFCC Coach Emily Coleman. "I'm proud of their fight, it was a solid first win to build off of."

Cape Fear completed a straight set 3-0 victory over Guilford Tech to cap the afternoon as Toman and Megan Clausen led the attack with six kills each. Tressa Amico also recorded seven blocks at net and Bailey contributed another strong defensive effort to finish with 22 digs.

"The girls were excited, came out hard and never let up," Coleman said. "Its a great first conference win."

The Sea Devils moved to 2-0 overall and 1-0 in league play. Cape Fear returns to the court at the Schwartz Center for a conference match against Lenoir Community College on Wednesday, September 2
