Cape Fear Holds On For Victory

Wilmington, NC - After grabbing the opening two sets for a commanding lead at the Schwartz Center, Lenoir Community College rallied to tie the match before Cape Fear Community College picked up a 15-8 victory in the decisive fifth set to pull out a 3-2 win on Wednesday night.

"This was such a tough fought battle," said CFCC Head Coach Emily Coleman. "We match up very similarly with Lenior and they are always a tough opponent. I'm so proud of our willingness to never give up. Although we pulled it out, we must continue to get better at executing at all times."

Wilmington native Megan Clausen (Laney) led the Sea Devils with 10 kills, while Kayla Mathias provided a strong effort from the service line with three aces.

Cape Fear improved to 2-0 in league play and 3-0 overall. The Sea Devils head to the western part of the state for the weekend to compete in the Region 10 Extravaganza, with four matches over two days against Pitt Community College, Catawba Valley, Surry Community College and Guilford Tech.
