Sea Devils Poised for Postseason Tournament

Wilmington, NC - Coming off a five-game winning streak to close the regular season, the Cape Fear Community College volleyball team is ready to make a run at the Region 10 Tournament Championship after finishing the regular season second in the division standings.

Four players on the team had 100 kills or more to help the Sea Devils secure a 13-3 mark in league play and the two-seed in the tournament. Cape Fear faces No. 6 Wake Tech in the first-round when action gets underway from Winterville at 6 p.m. to wrap a four match slate schedule for Friday, Nov. 6.

The Sea Devils and Wake Tech split the season series, with a five-set road win in Raleigh for the Eagles early in the year, but Cape Fear delivered a 3-0 sweep  two weeks ago at the Schwartz Center. Winners in 15 of their last 16 games, the Sea Devils finished with a 13-3 conference record, dropping their only other matches in the division against regular season champions Catawba Valley.

Freshman outside hitter Bailey Toman has a team-high 193 kills, while setter Faryn Salazar is about to surpass the 500 assist plateau in her rookie season. Middle blocker Tressa Amico swings a heavy hand at middle blocker to go along with her work in the defense after recording 139 total blocks. She had 153 kills and leads the team in total points.

Chelsea Bailey, Kayla Mathias and Rachel Braunschweig have 200 or more digs to round out a strong group for Coach Emily Coleman.

The winner of Friday's match advances to the semifinals on Saturday against the winner of No. 3 Pasco Hernando State College/No. 6 Brunswick Community College.
