Sea Devils Suffer Setback

Wilmington, NC - Despite an early score by Cape Fear Community College, the Sea Devils suffered a 3-1 setback to Richard Bland on Saturday afternoon.

Andrew Goodman put CFCC in front 1-0 in the 17th minute on a penalty kick, but Richard Bland tallied three unanswered goals to hand the Sea Devils its first loss of the season.

We missed several opportunities to take control of the game in the second half," said CFCC Coach Chris Libert. "They countered and scored on their chances. It was a very physical game, with way too many whistles. I felt the flow was taken away by the referee today, but we'll learn from some of our mistakes to help us get stronger."

Cape Fear outshot the home side 9-7, but Eduard Quntanilla found the equalizer in the 24th minute, while two late goals by Richard Bland put the match in check. Connor Belk made three saves for the Sea Devils, who fell to 1-1 in conference and 4-1 overall.

Cape Fear returns to the pitch against Wake Tech for an 8:30 p.m. kickoff at WRAL Soccer Complex in Raleigh on September 9.
