Cape Fear Tops USC Salkehatchie

Wilmington, NC - The Sea Devils jumped out to an early first half lead and put the game away in the 79th minute to record a 3-1 result against USC-Salkehatchie.

"I'm very proud of my guys today," said CFCC Coach Chris Libert. "We put the work in to get the result."

Miguel Ramos tallied off an assist by Franco Fernandez in the early stages of Saturday's match, while Brett Council scored on a penalty kick in the 22nd minute to give Cape Fear a two-goal advantage at the break.

USC-Salkehatchie closed the deficit to one 10 minutes into the second period, but Felix Licerio responded as Fernandez picked up his second assist to secure the victory.

"It was very tough to stay disciplined in a game where there were a lot of whistles," Libert added. "Several cards were issued, but I was glad to see my guys keep it together, stay composed and win the game."

Connor Belk made four saves for Cape Fear, who improved to 2-1-1 in conference and 5-1-1 overall. The Sea Devils return to the pitch with a trip to Axton, Virginia for a date with Patrick Henry Community College on September 16.
