Sea Devils Fall in Quarterfinals

Wilmington, NC - The season came to a close for the Cape Fear Community College men's soccer team on Wednesday afternoon as the Sea Devils fell 4-0 to Richard Bland College in the opening round of the Region 10 Tournament.

"It was a tough fight today on the road, but hard to do two men down," said CFCC Coach Chris Libert. "[It's] not the way we wanted to end our season."

Cape Fear faced an uphill battle beginning at the 30 minute mark when Austin Stevens received a red card. Andrew Goodman picked a second yellow just two minutes into second half to give Richard Bland a two-man advantage. Corner Belk had 10 saves facing 20 shots for the Sea Devils.

Cape Fear closes the year 6-9-3 overall after finishing fifth in the eight-team Region 10 Conference. Goodman (Seminole, Fla.) led the team with 10 goals on the year, while freshman Miguel Ramos (West Jefferson, N.C.) tallied three times. Wilmington native Franco Fernandez saw action in 16 matches, with two goals and three assists.

Richard Bland earned a spot in this weekend's Region 10 Semifinals at Legion Stadium in Wilmington. They will face #1 nationally ranked Louisburg College in game three of the tournament on Saturday, Oct. 31. Kickoff is slated for 5:30 p.m.
