Patrick Henry Tops Sea Devils

Axton, VA - Cape Fear Community College went down by two scores in the first half and could never climb back into Wednesday's match as the Sea Devils fell 5-1 to Patrick Henry Community College in Axton, Virginia.

"It's always tough to play on the road in conference," said CFCC Coach Chris Libert. "We gave up two goals in the first half off our mistakes, but were in the game, just didn't put away our chances."

Patrick Henry tallied through the early stages of the opening period and made it 2-0 in the 41st minute before Andrew Barton nearly cut the deficit just before the break, but the freshman's shot rang of the post.

"If we had scored there before halftime I think it would have been a different scenario heading into the second period," Libert added. "It's a cruel game sometimes.  All we can take from it was one of those games when our shots weren't going in and theirs did. It's frustrating, but a good lesson for the next one."

Patrick Henry put the game in check with three more goals within 10 minutes midway through the second half as Cape Fear finally got on the board in the 85th minute when McCartney Barrier put away Armando Garcia's rebounded shot. Connor Belk was well tested in goal for the Sea Devils and finished with 10 saves.

Cape Fear fell to 2-2-1 in conference and 5-2-1 overall. The Sea Devils return home to face Louisburg College at 4p.m. on Tuesday, September 22.
