Spartanburg Tops Cape Fear

Spartanburg, SC - The Cape Fear Community College men's soccer team got back on the pitch for the first time in two weeks on Saturday afternoon and dropped their third straight match as the Sea Devils fell 4-2 against Spartanburg Methodist in Region 10 action.

Miguel Ramos put the Sea Devils ahead in the openings stages of the first half off an assist from Andrew Goodman in a constant down pour in the Palmetto State.  Spartanburg rallied to score four unanswered goals late in the frame and Cape Fear lost Ramos to a second yellow card, earning him an ejection just before the break. The Sea Devils played one man down for 55 minutes and Andrew Barton scored in the 70th minute to cut the deficit.

"It was a tough day with the weather to begin with, but to go a man down is a back breaker," said CFCC Coach Chris Libert. "I was proud of my team for not giving up and competing."

After opening the season 4-0, Cape Fear has dropped four of its last six and their third straight game. The Sea Devils are 5-4-1 overall, 2-4-1 in conference and look to get back in the win column for the first time in one month to close a home-at-home series with Spartanburg Methodist on Monday, Oct 12. Kickoff is slated for 4 p.m. at the CFCC North Campus.
