WILMINGTON, NC---- The Sea Devil men's soccer team returns to the pitch Saturday afternoon in their second match of the 2016-2017 season. Region 10 opponent, Richard Bland College 2-1, (1-0 in Region 10), will look to give Cape Fear Community College 1-0, (1-0 in Region 10) their first loss of the season. The Statesmen are coming off a (4-1) victory over Frederick Community College in their last outing on Wednesday, August 31. The Sea Devils are coming off their (1-0) victory over USC Lancaster earlier this week as well.
"We've really become a family very quickly, and I am looking for that to propel us through the season. We are looking good at this point in the season, but this is only the beginning. We still have a long way to go," said Coach C.W. Ponton in his pre-game comments prior to kick-off in their matchup against Richard Bland College on Saturday afternoon.
Kick-off for Saturday afternoon's match between Richard Bland College and Cape Fear Community College is scheduled for 4pm (EST).
LAST TIME OUT
The Sea Devils got their first win of the season in their (1-0) season opener victory over USC Lancaster on Tuesday afternoon. Cape Fear and USC Lancaster were playing a scoreless first half until a cross in the box by sophomore midfielder Brian Leite that found an Andrew Phillips's header that was initially punched out by USC Lancaster goalkeeper Travis Scheppele but would hit a Lancer defender and came back into the net for an own goal. The own goal was the only goal of the match as Cape Fear did not allow USC Lancaster to record a goal despite the Lancers' five shots on goal all saved by Sea Devils goalkeeper Alex Gedrys.

Cape Fear jumped out to an early (1-0) lead in the match following a 7th minute goal by defender Muhammed Jahateh, a lead they would hold at halftime. The Sea Devils would later score four goals in the second half with goal contributions coming from Myles Strickland (46th, and 75th minute), Mamadouh Kelleh (79th minute), and Connor Case (87th minute); Sea Devil goalkeeper Dakota Moore recorded a clean sheet with 6 saves. With the victory, the Sea Devils extended their winning streak to (5-0) to start the 2014-2015 season, and their first win in conference play.
