WILMINGTON, NC - The Sea Devil Men's Soccer team returns to the pitch on Sunday evening against Region 10 Conference opponent, USC Lancaster. Cape Fear defeated Lancaster in their season opener game just a few weeks ago and will look to earn their second win of the season, and their second win in Region 10 Conference play on Sunday.
In the first matchup of the season, the game's lone goal scored by an USC Lancaster own goal in the first half. The own goal occurred after a header from Cape Fear's Andrew Phillips was initially punched out by Lancer goalkeeper Travis Scheppele, but the punch out hit a USC Lancaster defender and came back into the net.
Kick-off for today's match between USC Lancaster and Cape Fear Community College is scheduled for 6:00pm (EST) at Legion Stadium.
Last Time Out
Cape Fear is coming off a (2-3) defeat on Saturday night versus USC Salkehatchie after a late comeback surge fell just short. The Sea Devils got two second half goals from sophomore defender McCartney Barrier and sophomore forward Brian Leite in the span of 23 seconds. The Sea Devils continued to apply pressure on the USC Salkehatchie back line and goalkeeper, but couldn't manage an equalizer goal in the game's final minutes.
"The second half of this past game was the best we've played all season. Unfortunately we didn't come away with the win, but I'm hoping the guys carry that into Sundays game," said Coach Ponton.
USC Lancaster enters today's Region 10 contest versus Cape Fear Community College after their (0-5) defeat versus Spartanburg Methodist College.
"They do well at playing the ball through their center mids and then switching the play," said Coach Ponton prior to kick-off in today's matchup versus USC Lancaster.
