WILMINGTON, NC --- The great Pele once said, "The more difficult the victory, the greater the happiness in winning," today the Sea Devil Men's Soccer program opens their run for the 2016 NJCAA Region 10 Conference Championship in the first game of the tournament versus Spartanburg Methodist College.

Today's match-up is the third meeting this season between the Sea Devils and the Pioneers; the Sea Devils have fallen to Spartanburg Methodist each time but have played them very competitive in each of the two games. The Sea Devils fell (3-4) at home on Sunday, October 16, despite being tied with the Pioneers at halftime. Cape Fear would fall (0-3) on the road on Saturday, October 22 against the Pioneers in their regular season finale.

Today's game is the Play-In Game for the 2016 NJCAA Region 10 Conference Tournament with the winner facing the winner of Patrick Henry Community College/Wake Tech CC on Saturday.

"I'm very confident in my guys going into the playoffs this Wednesday. As long as we play our game we can most certainly come away with a W," said Sea Devil Men's Soccer head coach C.W. Ponton in his NJCAA Region 10 Conference Championship pre-tournament presser on Monday.

The Pioneers of Spartanburg Methodist College enters the match with a (13-4) overall record, and (12-2) in conference; they are (4-2) in their last six matches played in the month of October. Spartanburg Methodist is (6-3) in home matches this season, with their biggest victory coming in a (8-1) result versus Wake Tech Community College on September 3, 2016.

The Pioneers are led by a trio of offensive players, who have combined to score 26 out of the team's 54 goals scored this season.

Freshman striker Kevin Harris, has appeared in 13 games (13 starts), has tailed 11 goals scored, including two game-winning goals, with 5 assists, for 27 Total Points this season.

Sophomore left-back Kwaku Dwemena, who has appeared in 14 games (12 starts), an 8 goal scorer (2 have been GW goals), with 7 assists, for 23 Total Points this season.

Sophomore center-midfielder Tom Mitchinson, who has appeared 12 games (11 starts), leads the team with 13 assists this season, while also contributing with 5 goals on 18 Shots on Goal (.818 SOG%).

Defensively, Spartanburg Methodist has an experienced led unit, with sophomore center-back David Koprowski (10 match appearances, 10 starts), freshman CDM Luis Angel Fallas (15 match appearances, 14 starts), and freshman left-back Andrew Johnson (14 match appearances, 11 starts), combine to lead the way.

In goal for Spartanburg Methodist is freshman netminder William Waldenmaier, who has appeared in 13 games (10 starts), while playing in 944:00 minutes, who has given up 15 goals (1.43 Goal Against Average), on 49 saves with a .766 Save%.

Kick-off for today's NJCAA Region 10 Conference Championship Play-In Game between Sea Devil Men's Soccer versus the Pioneers' Men's Soccer program is scheduled for 4:00pm (EST) from Spartanburg Methodist College in Spartanburg, SC.
