WILMINGTON, NC – The Sea Devil Men's Soccer program looks for their second straight victory on Wednesday night versus Region 10 opponent, Louisburg College.
Cape Fear enters the game after their (3-0) home victory over USC Lancaster on Sunday evening. The Sea Devils got goal contributions from two freshmen players. Midfielder Pedro Ugarte recorded his first career goal after his header found the back off the net in the 40th minute following an Alan Sanchez free kick. Ugarte would later score in the 88th minute on a penalty shot after he was taken down in the box on a USC Lancaster foul. Cape Fear also got a contribution from Travis Anttila who scored in the 78th minute, for his first career goal with the Sea Devil Men's Soccer program. Freshman goalkeeper Martin Zambrano earned his first career shutout with a 4 save clean sheet performance against USC Lancaster.
The victory against the Lancers was their second of the 2016-2016 season, and improved their overall record to (2-3) on the season. Cape Fear Community College enters Wednesday's match-up versus Louisburg College with a (2-3) record in Region 10 Conference competition.
Louisburg College enters the game after a (0-1) home overtime defeat against Georgia Military College on Sunday afternoon. Louisburg College held the Bulldogs without a shot for the game's 90 minutes of regulation before Georgia Military's Ismael Siby's pass found Osbaldo Senderos whose shot found the back of the Hurricanes' net. The Hurricanes had the advantage in the entire game in total shots recorded: Hurricanes- 9 shots, Bulldogs- 1 shot, but were not able to find a goal on Georgia Military's goalkeeper Ricardo Ortiz.
The loss against the Bulldogs was the Hurricanes first of the 2016-2017 season, and dropped their record to (3-1) overall. Louisburg College enters Wednesday's game versus Cape Fear Community College with a (1-0) record in Region 10 Conference competition.
Sea Devil Men's Soccer head coach C.W. Ponton addressed the team's performance at this point of the season in his pre-game presser saying, "We're performing really well. We just need to continue to improve upon our current form."
Tomorrow's matchup between the two men's soccer programs is the 30th all-time in school history; Louisburg College leads the all-time series at (24-3-2).
Kick-off for Wednesday's matchup is scheduled for 5:00pm (EST) from Legion Stadium.
