WILMINGTON, NC--- The Sea Devil Women's Basketball program returns to the floor on Saturday evening in their first game on their five-game road trip, versus (3-0) South Georgia Technical College from Americus, Georgia in Day 1 of the tournament.

"I am excited heading into the SGTC Tournament as we will face some great competition and it will be a good test for us as we head into conference play net week," said Sea Devil Women's head coach Lori Drake in her pre-game presser leading up to Saturday's game.

Cape Fear enters the match-up versus the Jets with a (1-0) record after they won their 2016-2017 season opener in a (71-51) home victory over Combine Academy.

Sophomores Destiny Campbell and Desaree Green led the way offensively, Campbell finished as the team's leading scorer with 18 points, added 6 rebounds, 3 blocks, and 2 steals, while shooting 56.3% from the field. Green would add a double-double performance with a 10 point and 10 rebound performance with 83.3% shooting from the field.

Freshman forward/center Ari Young was also an important factor on both sides of the ball for the Sea Devils, as Young netted 8 points, 4 rebounds, and 2 blocks in her 31 minutes played in the season opener.

Following the team's victory, Sea Devil Women's Basketball head coach Lori Drake addressed that limiting their turnovers was key, "Once we started doing that, points come easy for us," said Drake in her post-game presser.

As for their opponent, the Lady Jets of South Georgia Technical College enters Saturday evening's tilt with a (3-0) record on the year, where they have outscored their opponents (244-171) in their three games thus far, including a season high 93 points in their (93-54) home victory over Denmark Tech in the Lady Jets Tipoff Tournament last week.

Leading the way for the Jets, is sophomore forward Angela Tompkins, who is the team's leading scorer at 17.3 points per game, and 11.1 rebounds per game, on 60.0% shooting from the floor and 44.4% from three pointers, while averaging 24.3 minutes per game.

Other players to watch on the Lady Jets women's basketball program are sophomore guard Cierra Bond and sophomore forward Molly Brown. Bond, is the team's second leading scorer with 15.2ppg and 6.5rpg, and Brown is the team's third leading scorer at 10.3ppg and 5.2rpg.

"SGTC is an excellent squad with great size both in their guards and post players. They have some excellent three point threats in Kanna Suzuki and Camille Coleman, so we must defend outside the arch and contest everything. SGTC has several strong players that come off of the bench, but their key bench player is Esther Adenike. We'll have to be ready to defend and attack her when she enters the game," added Drake.

Tip-off for Saturday's game versus the Lady Jets women's basketball program is scheduled for 6:00pm (EST) from South Georgia Technical College's basketball arena.

Following their result versus South Georgia Technical College, the Sea Devils will play versus Wallace State Community College-Hanceville, the following day on Sunday afternoon; tip-off for that game is scheduled for 1:00pm (EST).

The Big 3: Head Coach Lori Drake's Three Biggest Keys to Victory
  1. Limiting our team turnovers by executing offensively
  2. Force SGTC to stop our inside post game
  3. Value each defensive possession..... defend, rebound and run
